2006 Family Campout - Greensboro Pack 316
Battlefield District’s Annual Cub Family Campout
Cub Scouts on Safari
Jungles of Woodfield Scout Preservation,
October 6th – 8th, 2006
Camp Site - "Wolf Den"
In the deepest reaches of the lost continent of Upper Carolina our Cub Scouts will travel to the jungles of Woodfield to seek ADVENTURE. Through the challenges of many events and games we will seek the lost treasure and "find" the hidden knowledge of enlightenment. By facing these challenges, we will achieve riches greater than money, fame, or gold. Come capture the fun of scouting with us!
Free time activities include Fishing (at Pirates’ Cove/Pirate Ship and the Long House Dock), hiking, and a nap (if you dare!).
Early Set-up time begins after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6th. This is optional. Call Scott Rehrauer at the Scout office (378-9166) if you plan to come down Friday night.
Saturday Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 10:30 a.m. We signed up for "Wolf Den" campsite. Sunday Morning Chapel Service is at 9:00 a.m. Activities end at 9:35 a.m. Our campsite and designated bathhouse will be inspected prior to our leaving. We must remove ALL trash from our site, so bring trash bags. A dumpster is located behind the camp Dining Hall. We want to be environmentally prudent so bring your “washable bowl/plate/cup/utensils (clearly labeled with your name) for all meals. A wash station will be available. Paper containers break down easier than plastic.
Cost is $20.00 per family (make check payable to Pack 316). This fee includes a patch for your scout, Saturday lunch, (a "Hurry-up Jungle dog" . . . we don’t won’t to miss the opening ceremony at 11:28 a.m. You may bring your own lunch Saturday if "dogs" aren’t your desire), participation in Saturday’s activities.
Saturday night’s FEAST of our famous "Squirrel Egg Stew" (eggs "speared" by our own Webelos II’s), yummy cobblers after the campfire program.
Sunday morning "Pancakes on the Grill." Everyone should also bring one breakfast item for Sunday morning to be shared with Pack 316’s "Jungle crew" to complete our "North America Shoney’s breakfast." (yummy!)
Please bring the following designated food item:
New Tigers: Muffins/Bagels
Wolves (Den 5): Fruit and (Den 6): Cereal
BEARS (Den 4/7): Eggs
WEBELOS I’s (Den 8a): Bacon and (Den 8b): Sausage
WEBELOS II’s: Frozen concentrated Orange Juice and Milk.
Please be sure to bring extra food and drinks just for your family should they get hungry or thirsty during the day or night
We encourage you to dress in "jungle" attire during the activities on Saturday. Class A Uniforms should be worn at the Sunday morning Non-Denominational Chapel Service.
There will be a "SPIRIT STICK AWARD" for the Pack that demonstrates spirit and great attitude throughout the day on Saturday. WE GOT THE SPIRIT, WE JUST NEED TO SHOW IT THAT DAY by having a GREAT attitude all day long (even if it’s hot and full of bugs in the jungle, or rainy, or we’re hungry and thirsty). There will be a "CAMPSITE/GATE DISPLAY AWARD" for the pack with the most visually appealing and imaginative "SAFARI JUNGLE" theme campsite. There will be a "SCOUT SKILLS CAMPSITE AWARD" based on our Pack displaying cleanliness, organization and impressive Scout Skills improvements. So this means we have to keep a clean campsite AT ALL TIMES, keep fire safety buckets filled and available at all times, keep our bathroom clean, display our food menu and den duties, and be prepared for a camp inspection at any time. The last award is the PACK FLAG AWARD given to the Pack with the most original and decorative "SAFARI" theme flag. SO AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE’S A NEED FOR PLENTY OF CREATIVE "JUNGLE JUICE" from all of you, our Safari family, so let us hear your ideas or better still, pick one and head up a team on that particular award. Just let Tom know how you can help.
EVERY PERSON attending the Cub Family Campout MUST submit a "Class 1" Health Form. This is BSA policy.
Vehicles will be allowed in the campsite to unload and load only (stay on the camp road while unloading/loading). All vehicles must park in designated parking areas. Friendly "Safari officials" will be available to direct you. Be kind to them, please. They are there for everyone’s safety and the protection of our "jungle roads and fields."
Open fires are allowed ONLY in the fire rings and must be attended by an adult at ALL TIMES. Two fire safety buckets, filled with water, should be by both fire rings.
If you are qualified in First Aid and/or CPR, please let us know. We will also need "cooks" for Saturday’s lunch and Sunday’s breakfast. Mr. and Mrs. Swink are our head jungle chefs for Saturday’s supper. Thank you! They may need "stirrers!" No experience necessary, training available on site. It will be the responsibility of all jungle families to keep our campsite clean and safe. Two deep leadership required at all times and the buddy system is a MUST!
A Saturday Night Campfire program at the Council Ring Amphitheater will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m EJT. Be sure to bring your flashlight. It gets really dark! We will need a Pack song/cheer/yell or skit. If you would like to volunteer to help us with our Scout spirit, give us a "yell."
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED ON CAMP PROPERTY. SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED IN OUR CAMPSITE. No Pets, please.
You can TREK IN all the CHOCOLATE and COCA COLA products you want, but it MUST be shared with our jungle family. See you in the JUNGLES of Woodfield!
